Two months after another trophyless second-place finish, Arsenal’s 2025 summer transfer business is well underway.
With five signings completed and Viktor Gyökeres on the verge of joining, Mikel Arteta's squad rebuild looks to be taking shape.
As they get set to jet off on their 2025 tour of Asia, there will be some new faces on the plane. The club have already completed an unprecedented five deals: goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Christian Norgaard from Brentford, centre-back Cristian Mosquera from Valencia, and winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea, with the not-so-small matter of Viktor Gyökeres waiting in the wings.
Including the potential signing of Gyökeres, Arsenal’s summer spending goes over £200m and all in time for their pre-season tour, likely something Mikel Arteta was eager for Andrea Berta to deliver.
The additions of Kepa, Norgaard and Mosquera are all smart pieces of business, with the mix of youth and experience filling the gaps in the squad left by player departures.
Cristian Mosquera, a 21-year-old right-footed centre back, is the most exciting of those three. One of the most promising defenders in Europe, and signed for under £20 million, he offers excellent value for money and crucial depth for Arsenal’s backline as cover for William Saliba.
Kepa and Norgaard are less glamorous additions, but still very needed ones. Both bring valuable experience and importantly have left room in the budget for some of the more pressing matters Berta has needed to address.
Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal is, in my opinion, one of the best signings of the window. Whilst the move may have lost some of its sparkle after interest was reported as early as January, beating off the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool for the Spanish midfielder is no mean feat. He brings elite press resistance and an extraordinary passing range that is crucial to how Arsenal play and, again in my opinion, is a huge upgrade on the departed Thomas Partey.
The Madueke signing raised eyebrows among certain parts of the fanbase, mainly due to the high fee being handed to rivals Chelsea. However, with Bukayo Saka’s injury last season, adding depth on the right wing was crucial. Madueke brings flair, versatility, and unpredictability to the Gunners' attack and at 23, he has plenty of room to grow. Arteta’s record with wingers (Sane, Sterling, Martinelli, Saka, etc) makes this more of a calculated bet, then a gamble.
With five signings through the door and Viktor Gyökeres still to come, Arsenal haven’t just strengthened, they have shown serious intent. If they add another star such as Eberechi Eze, there is not much that could stop Mikel Arteta’s men next season.
